Although we haven't been very active with news in the past few weeks we haven't been idle. A part of the team is currently in the process of getting used to the new engine we will be moving to, whilst the others are busy with 'cleaning up' and integrating as many unfinished projects as possible to make version 1.8 a worthy ending. First Strike Well as we mentioned a few weeks ago we have an exciting new update to announce, and now it gives me great pleasure to introduce you to First Strike version 1.55.
While the First Strike artists have been hard at work finishing off the art assets for Hoth, our coders and mappers have been busying themselves with developing further our Co-op map selection available for First Strike which should now much more fully represent the gameplay styles available in the Multiplayer portion of the mod. Additionally there has been some honing of other technical features of the mod on a whole such as balancing assets better for gameplay, graphical tweaks, more sophisticated special effects and a whole load of other stuff which should improve the mod no end.

It has been a while since we have released any development based news updates, what with the recent Campaign event reports and all. So we thought it was high time that we kept you up to date with what we've been up to over the Summer.
As you all know, the main thrust of our development this year is geared towards us finally releasing our much sought after Battle of Hoth map. Our development resources are currently quite thin on the ground, so we hoped to make as good a use of the Summer break as possible to get dev team members back on the case and get some solid work done for this hotly anticipated map. It oddly keeps you quite cool working on snow related assets in these hot months. Despite all the work that has been done there is still quite a way to go, our concept for the gameplay is solid, we know what needs to be done, have our tasks set out ahead of us, and we know we have a potential hit on our hands which will be well worth all the hard work that we've put into it. Today I'd like to reveal a few of the key locations that we have been working on over the Summer.
People who have been following us for a while might remember that the last development based report we released involved the model for the AT-AT Walker cockpit, so it seems only apt that we follow on from that with a few shots of the AT-AT Walker Troop Bay. This is one of the compartments that is housed within the body of the mighty Imperial walker. According to EA, the amount of people playing these titles accounts for fewer than 1% of peak online players. Battlefield 2: Modern Combat for Xbox 360 was released April 11th, 2006. The Battlefield 2142 demo for PC was released October 6th, 2006. The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy.
The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired. But as games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles below a point - fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles - where it’s feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running. We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99% of customers playing our more popular games. DICE Associate Producer, Barrie Tingle (aka bazajaytee) posted some information on his blog about Battlefield 2142 coming to Steam. It was back in November 2009 that Battlefield 2142 would be making its way to digital distribution services like Steam and Direct2Drive, but we still haven't seen it yet. The blog post explains the long wait and the process they are going through. Mac users should also be on the look out for v1.51, but there is no ETA. So I get this question a lot about what is taking so long bringing BF2142 to STEAM. First there was the requirement of v1.51 on PC to be completed and released.
Then, as some of you know from the forums, the plan was to wait for the Mac conversion to be completed before releasing on STEAM. However, the Mac conversion is taking longer than expected so this week the full version of BF2142 incluing v1.51 and Northern Strike went off to go through its process of being STEAM wrapped.
This is usually a pretty quick process but at this time I don’t have more exact dates as that will come down to Valve and EA discussions and agreements. As soon as I hear of a date that BF2142 will go on STEAM I will let you know. Mac users, v1.51 including all the content is coming but there is no ETA on that yet either.
For those who have been asking, DVD and EA Store codes will not work with STEAM so you will not be able to redeem your code and have the option of downloading through STEAM instead of using disc or EA Store.On the Battlefield 3 side of things, it's interesting to note that he is working on 'launch plans including the server providers'. Although probably not a surprise, it seems ranked game service providers will be returning for Battlefield 3. As well as that, plenty of gaming on PC (Starcraft 2) and 360 (bits of everything) but nothing on PS3 recently but was going to get Killzone 3, still might. @iNilo – Tough question:) All of the games have been in the hundreds of people involved including programmers, artists, audio, QA (these teams were in their hundreds of people on the early Battlefield titles), marketing, publishing etc.

Now we'd like to introduce you to his best buddy, after all what would an AT-AT Commander be without a crew under his command? So today we take a look at the development of the AT-AT Driver. Now at first glance the AT-AT Driver appears to be just a new paint job on the existing character costume for the Imperial TIE Pilot, with a few bits and bobs added to make it appear different from the original, and on the surface you'd be right.

DICE's Barry Tingle posted an update on the EA UK Forums about the Battlefield 2142 v1.51 patch. The patch, which was currently in public beta, was suppose to be released last week, but a problem with MD5 checks pushed it back. The new release date is next Tuesday, February 15th.
OK guys, so we have a change of plans after a tip off here on the forums that the md5 checks were not working. We spent this week fixing them and have verified everything is working with some of the RSP's (thanks XFactorServers.com and ArtOfWarCentral.com). The official release of BF2142 v1.51 will be on Tuesday 15th Febuary. This does mean there is another patch file which EVERYONE will need to download and install. If you have v1.51 installed already you will need to go into Regedit and modify version number from 1.51 to 1.50 before running the install file. If you are installing fresh from DVD or EA Download Manager you will need to download and run v1.50 patch FIRST and then v1.51. You can get v1.50 from Fileplay here - The v1.51 patch is currently only for PC.

With this update we'd like to introduce you to one of the unique new assets we've been developing for the much anticipated First Strike Battle of Hoth map.
We've had a slow start this year with many of us having heavy work commitments limiting our time to develop for First Strike, but the work is coming on. So today we take a look at the development of the first new character model to grace this mod in quite a few years. With our initial development of the mod we had many character modellers and skinners working on the team developing many of the iconic character/soldier types from the movies, with their many variants, the standard Stormtrooper, Sandtrooper and Snowtrooper for instance is a good example. Even though we might not have had the maps for them to inhabit we were ready for most of the locales seen in the movie as far as character meshes were concerned.
However there was a gap in our assets in this area, though we had developed cold weather Rebel forces and Imperial Snowtroopers we were missing some vital assets for Hoth, namely the AT-AT Commander.
